Letter Commentary: John Misses Julian

5 years ago, I posted a previous Letter Commentary about the Hamburg letter. Now that it's 60 years since this letter was written, I decided to do this again. I'll be "ripping" apart the letter to insert my commentary in between.

Where's pages 1 through 5?

Dot - Jarlett the housekeeper
Lil - Cynthia's mother
Bennie - maybe Dot's husband?
Tommy - I don't know
Jocky - I don't know but maybe John's chauffeur before he hired Les Anthony?

Whoever they all may be, they were constant visitors to the Lennon household and John was annoyed by them always being there preventing private family alone time.
While everyone could take a hike for all John's care, the one person he didn't want to send off was Julian.
I guess this is the point where John realized that Julian, being at the age of 2 years, was becoming a little man, having his own personality, and being more verbal.
I can't help but "Awwww" this part, without fail. This kinda gets to me the most.
The sad part of this part of the letter was that although I am sure John genuinely meant every single word he wrote on paper, unfortunately bad habits are hard to break. He went back to the cycle of being into his own little world, distracted, and wanted his ME time. I'm glad John acknowledged his regret of not being there for Julian - it certainly haunted him until his dying day.
I love you very much. To Cyn from John ... Sounds like a greeting card or a present note of to & from. 27 kisses.
Charles was Cynthia's brother. At this time, Cynthia was in Libya.
And John was determined for Cynthia to call him, was he?

Also, I wonder if anybody ever attempted to dial that number? By using California's area code.

Happy 90!

Happy 90th Birthday to Yoko!

I know Yoko is not the favorite in the John and Cynthia story, she's been made to be a villain. However, not everyone is perfect and sometimes someone would get wrapped up into this phenomenon that can get uncontrollable. I have been researching Yoko for the past few years (to celebrate her 90th Birthday for my Women of the Beatles Facebook and Instagram, including this blog) and I certainly have gotten to know a bit about her. Her upbringing hasn't been easy, nor were her relationship with her parents: a father who demanded perfection on the piano, a mother who cared more about her beauty and furs. So many experiences in her 90 years, it's honestly incredible.

Letter Commentary: The Hamburg Letter

Years ago, I had a John and Cynthia journal that was basically what the blog is. To make things interesting and fun, I printed out the letter(s) so I could cut them apart and insert my commentary in between. When I started this blog a few short years ago, I debated to do something like this and thought, Why not? We only live once and it will be fun to do and read. Luckily, my commentary on paper is still the same as I think now whenever I see the letter circulating on the internet.

I always wondered what Cynthia blanked out, "my little ___" WHAT??? What did John call her? It must've been either so dirty or so private enough for Cynthia to white it out. I believe it was even put on display, blotched out and all. Pity… Every time I see this, the more curious I get.
I believe he (and the others) did eventually see Astrid
John, relax, Dot wasn't moving IN with Cynthia, she was moving in the next apartment! But I gotta say, it's cute that he wanted to be alone with Cynthia.
This is where I feel that John was haunted by Stuart. Of all the deaths around him, Stuart's really did a number on John.
Poor baby, John's tired and wanted Cynthia in his arms. Although, I wonder if John ever wrote to Cynthia while a groupie slept in his bed? I know, sounds disgusting and idiotic but I wouldn't put it past him.
Chocies, I am guessing it's supposed to be chocolates. Yoko did say he loved chocolates. Damn, dude, a throbber? Cynthia could blank out the beginning of the letter but not this? Well, on the upside, here's proof that the thought of Cynthia made John horny.
Ahhhhh! Well, well, well! Here's proof that Yoko was NOT the first person John wanted to dress coordinated with. Actually, Pete Shotton was the first but on the romantic level, Cynthia. Yoko isn't the original of John's ideas other than him changing his middle name from Winston to Ono (which didn't really work, John had to settle his name as John Winston Ono Lennon).
Heehee, Paul snores.
Awww, how sweet. Despite being in grief and being reminded of Stuart all around him, there were also great memories he had with Cynthia when she was there a year ago (April 1961).
I know John used to send whatever money he earned performing to Cynthia for their future savings; John sent some money to his Aunt Mimi, too. Bet Mimi was somewhat happy.
During divorce negotiating for a settlement, John told Cynthia, "That's like winning the pools, so what are you moaning about? You're not worth any more." 'Effing a-hole! I think Cynthia should've used this part of the letter in her divorce from John to prove that she was worth something to him and his career. On another note: yum yum?
Aww 'I'm beat, my sweet'. Can't help but swoon.
Okay, in Cynthia's John book, she wrote that John drew the panties in the letter, but it's not here. Was it drawn elsewhere?
Overall, John sure wrote I Love You alot, didn't he? Just about 4 months later, John and Cynthia would be married and expecting a baby.

Grand total
I Love You: 24
X (kisses): 9

Let Me Introduce This Blog…

Why did I decide to do this blog? That's a good question, considering that I have enough on both internet and personal life going on. The answer is because I have always been drawn to the marital relationship between John and Cynthia Lennon. There is something special in their highly underrated love story that in the previous and future posts to explore, analyze, and record that gets constantly overlooked and brush-off to the forgotten side. John would have probably would have preferred it to be that way as he felt so in the years he was with Yoko Ono (we will get more into that in posts to come). Meanwhile, Cynthia recently passed away so she can no longer defend her love story. Julian, to be fair, barely remembers his parents together as they split when he was five and, honestly, I don't really want him to carry on the burden of defending his parents’ relationship or anything else. John's first marriage wasn't as in-your-face as it was with his second marriage to Yoko. His marriage to Cynthia have been often looked down upon as an obligation loveless footnote in John's life story. But it wasn't. There's something more to it.

I do want to point something out for future references… it is not my intention to use this blog to blame or bash Yoko in any way shape or form. Although admittedly she is not my favorite and it may show in between the lines, I want this blog to be positive and to be more focused on John and Cynthia. To get this off my chest, I am not a fan of Yoko-- her treatment towards Julian is unforgivable. There were better ways of handling their difficulties and if they (John and Yoko) have reconsider everyone involved and be more sympathetic, perhaps my views on her would've been much different. That being said, I have spoken to both of her children Kyoko and Sean in social media, who are nice and gracious. I have seen Sean constantly getting tweets and comments of hatred on his mother, and despite my own feelings of Yoko, I couldn't help but feel sorry for Sean for having to see that. Same with both Heather and Beatrice McCartney who have witnessed their mothers constantly being shat on from the media and fans… I wouldn't be surprised if any of that is partially the cause of why we rarely or never see Heather going to her family events for almost 20 years. At the end of the day, it's really the children who gets the price to pay for witnessing a side of hatred. They know their mothers, we don't. They live with their mothers, we don't. And because of that and because I like to think that I am a nice fair person, that I don't want to spend my time hating that particular person. It is what it is, it was what it was…
